This small report looks at new releases from Eric Solomon’s European Cellars and includes a bevy of brilliant wines mostly from France and Spain.
As I’ve written in the past, Eric has a knack for finding up-and-coming producers as well as sensational values. Highlights in this report include the latest releases from Château Puech-Haut in the Languedoc, the blockbuster 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape Chimère from Manfred Krankl and the Maurel Brothers of Clos Saint Jean, Jean-Marc Lafage’s incredible values from the Roussillon, some gems from the Priorat (including a small vertical of Clos Erasmus), and a bevy of beautiful wines from Ribera del Duero. In addition, there are a number of roses reviewed which are perfect for summer quaffing.
Not only is Solomon’s portfolio packed with sensational values, it also includes truly world-class wines. As I think the reviews will show, this was one of the greatest importer tastings I’ve been a part of and if you like rich, textured, yet balanced wines that reflect their place of origin and terroir, no one does it better today than Eric Solomon.
Lastly, these cuvées tend to be small, specialty blends, with many brought in exclusively to the US. It’s important readers check the importer label on bottles before purchasing to ensure which cuvée they’re getting.
