This latest Up From The Cellar is another eclectic mix! First and foremost, it includes a number of Northern Rhônes that I missed getting into the regional report earlier this year (full report). Producers included here are François Villard, Yves Cuilleron, Christophe Pichon, and Clusel-Roch. A heartfelt apology for missing those wines earlier.
Beyond that, we have a number of new releases from California, as well as the full list of 2024s from Carter. There’s a small retrospective from Quintessa as well.
The report is heavy on older Bordeaux, with some real gems that I was thrilled to taste. There are some First Growths from legendary years, as well as a mix of other terrific châteaux with some real age.
This report includes the latest releases from Château de la Négly. These will fall to my colleague Andy Chabot going forward, but I was thrilled to be able to taste them. The lineup is packed with rich, textured, yet beautifully balanced wines.
I also was able to sit down with Antoine Veiry of Château Montus and certainly came away impressed. The whites are brilliant as well as ageworthy, and I think the reds here bring lots of power and structure, with the newer releases showing another level of elegance. These are terrific wines.
There’s also a handful of Burgundies. I purchased a set of the 2019s from Domaine Rossignol-Trapet and the wines showed beautifully.
And last but not least, there are a handful of beautiful Southern Rhônes. As always, I hope you enjoy the reviews!
All the best,
Jeb
