Sitting at the base of the limestone cliffs known as the Dentelles de Montmirail, Gigondas covers roughly over 3,000 acres of mostly steep, limestone hillside vineyards.
Due to its northerly aspect and higher elevation, Gigondas is one of the cooler appellations in the Southern Rhône and harvest here can lag other appellations by more than 1-2 weeks.
The traditional wines from Gigondas possess ample savory, cedary, and incredibly Provencal characteristics as well as plenty of structure and tannins. In general, most of these wines will benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-15 years of aging potential.
