2019 Aesthete Sauvignon Blanc Dry Stack Vineyard

I was able to taste two vintages of the Sauvignon Blanc, both from a site in the cooler climate Bennett Valley. The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Dry Stack Vineyard offers lots of melon, papaya, fig, and pineapple notes as well as a concentrated, vibrant and pure style on the palate. It's geared for the dinner table and is beautifully done, with both bright acidity and loads of fruit.

2019 Aesthete Rose Of Pinot Noir

Made by the team of Jeff Jones, Pete Jones, and Jesse Katz, the 2019 Rose Of Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot Noir that spent six months in French oak. It actually reminds me a little of a rosé from Bandol with its richer style, yet it still has plenty of freshness as well as a clean, crisp finish. Offering lots of ripe strawberries, nectarines, whites flowers, and spice, drink this complex, textured, food-friendly beauty over the coming 6-12 months.

2019 Beau Marchais Pinot Noir Clos Pepe #5

The 2019 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe #5 comes from a valley floor site in the Sta. Rita Hills and a cooler parcel in the vineyard that faces the Pacific Ocean. It was mostly destemmed (30-35% stems) clone 667 and Pommard and saw an extended maceration of 48 days. It offers more cassis, candied orange violets, and sappy herb notes to go with a gorgeously polished, medium to full-bodied, silky style on the palate that still carries plenty of vibrant acidity and fine tannins.

2019 Beau Marchais Pinot Noir Clos Pepe #6

From the same site yet from a slightly warmer, more sheltered section of the vineyard, the 2019 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe #6 is similarly colored yet has a very different style, with huge notes of framboise, mulled strawberries, orange blossom, candied flowers, and incense all emerging from the glass. More ripe, powerful, and sexy on the palate, it doesn’t quite have the density of the #5 cuvee, but it’s just about as sexy and opulent as Pinot Noir gets. Nevertheless, it has beautiful balance, notable underlying structure, and a great, great finish. If 12% or less alcohol Burgundy is your thing, this isn’t for you, but it’s going to be a stunning expression of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir.

The 2019 Reminiscence is based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon and includes 12% Cabernet Franc. The final blend will end up with around 80-90% new French oak. Its saturated purple color is followed by a smoking good bouquet of crème de cassis, scorched earth, lead pencil, and crushed rock-like minerality. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, concentrated 2018 that has a fresh, vibrant yet powerful style. It's a baby, but it’s loaded with potential.

2019 Ram's Gate Winery Pinot Blanc Estate Vineyard

I was able to taste two 2019 whites. The 2019 Pinot Blanc Estate Vineyard is another fresh, elegant white that has lots of green apple and citrus fruit as well as a bright, clean, delicious style on the palate. It's a great example of this variety and should keep for a year or so.

These are terrific wines are now made by Joe Nielsen, who previously made the wines for Donelan. Production levels for most of these are in the 1,000-case range, so these should be relatively easy to find. They’re rock-solid across the board.
