2017 Ladera Chardonnay Pillow Road

Starting with the 2017 Chardonnay Pillow Road, which comes from a site in the Russian River, this deep gold-hued effort offers a ripe, honeyed bouquet of apricots, buttered pineapple, brioche, and honeycomb. It has good acidity on the palate and is medium-bodied and sweetly fruited. It's a touch too honeyed and ripe for me, but it holds it together and is solid on the palate. Drink it over the coming year or two.

2017 Ladera Pinot Noir Pillow Road

Moving to the 2017 Pinot Noir Pillow Road, which comes from the same vineyard, it spent 15 months in barrel and is held a year in bottle before release. This classic Russian River effort offers loads of black cherry and black raspberry fruit as well as lots of spice, cola, and spicy oak, medium to full body, lots of fruit, and a great finish. It's a pleasure-bent, opulent, yet balanced Pinot that's going to drink nicely for 3-5 years.
