2018 Maritana Vineyards Chardonnay La Riviere

A blend from Dutton, Martinelli and Sussana's Vineyard, the 2018 Chardonnay La Rivière was barrel fermented and aged 10 months in 10% new oak. Its medium to light gold hue is followed by pretty peach and spiced stone fruit notes as well as a kiss of background oak. It's lightly textured and has good acidity as well as the soft, charming style of the 2018 vintage. Drink it over the coming couple of years.

2018 Maritana Vineyards Chardonnay Shop Block 1967

From a great site in the Russian River Valley and brought up in 20% new oak, the 2018 Chardonnay Shop Block 1967 is another medium-bodied, soft effort that lacks some zip and vibrancy. White peach, flowers, and lemon notes emerge from the glass of this medium-bodied white. It’s best drunk in its youth.

2018 Maritana Vineyards Chardonnay Hansen Hill Vineyard

The 2018 Chardonnay Hansen Hill Vineyard is also honeyed (I'd almost guess Sauternes by the nose) with lots of apricot and tropical fruits intermixed with a touch spice and brioche. It's fat, soft, and again, lacks vibrancy and zip.

2018 Maritana Vineyards Pinot Noir Le Russe

Moving to the Pinot Noirs, the 2018 Pinot Noir Le Russe comes from a mix of vineyards in the Russian River and was 50% destemmed and brought up 75% new oak. Spiced cherries, underbrush, dried herbs, and loamy earth notes are followed by a medium-bodied red with nicely integrated stem notes, plenty of sweet fruit, and a good finish.

2018 Maritana Vineyards Pinot Noir Jenkins Ranch

More baked cherries, mulling spices, forest floor, and leafy herbs notes emerge from the 2018 Pinot Noir Jenkins Ranch. It's a medium-bodied, soft, easygoing and relatively simple effort, although it has good fruit.

2018 Maritana Vineyards Pinot Noir Martaella Vineyard

I loved the nose on the 2018 Pinot Noir Martaella Vineyard, a darker fruited, smoky effort offering solid clarity in its black fruits, spicy herbs, licorice, and forest floor aromas and flavors. With medium-bodied richness, good overall freshness, moderate depth but balance and charm, drink it over the coming 3-4 years.

2018 Maritana Vineyards Pinot Noir Moonshine Ranch

As with all these Pinot Noirs from Maritana Vineyard, the 2018 Pinot Noir Moonshine Ranch comes from a site in the Russian River and was 50% destemmed and aged 10 months in 75% new French oak. Classic red and black fruits, cola, spice, and sappy herb notes all emerge from the glass, followed by a rounded, nicely textured 2018 that has ripe tannins and no hard edges. It's another solid yet forward effort from this estate to drink in its youth.
