Its medium ruby/plum color gives way to spicy, floral effort that has ripe raspberry and cherry fruits, medium to full body, a soft, supple texture, and outstanding length. The overall feel here is one of upfront fruit in a charming, balanced, package. It's a textbook 2018 to enjoy over the coming 4-6 years.

2017 Lynmar Estate Chardonnay Quail Hill Vineyard

Starting with the Chardonnay, there are three Russian River releases and one Sonoma Coast. The 2017 Chardonnay Quail Hill Vineyard comes from a site in the Russian River and spent 14 months in 39% new French oak. Lots of poached pear, peaches, orange blossom, and spice all emerge from the glass, and it's rich yet also fresh, with a good spine of acidity. It's beautifully done and is going to drink well for a decade.

2017 Lynmar Estate Chardonnay Susanna's Vineyard

The only release not from the Russian River, the 2017 Chardonnay Susanna's Vineyard comes from a site on the Sonoma Coast and was brought up in 50% new French oak. Lots of white flowers, chalky minerality, citrus, and subtle toasty notes all emerge from this beauty, which is a fresher, more lively, focused effort that still carries ample concentration and richness. It's a gem of a Chardonnay in the vintage that will evolve for 10-12 years.

2017 Lynmar Estate Chardonnay La Sereinite

Next, the 2017 Chardonnay La Sereinite comes from a mix of the Susanna's Vineyard, Quail Hill, and Adam's vineyards in the Russian River and saw 75% new French oak, with the balance in concrete tank (which is unique for this cuvée). This stunning effort has a vibrant bouquet of crushed citrus, pear, white flowers, honeysuckle, and a beautiful sense of minerality. These all flow to a medium to full-bodied Chardonnay with a great mid-palate and just about flawless balance. Don't miss it. It's going to evolve for 10-12 years as well and is a killer bottle of wine.

2017 Lynmar Estate Chardonnay Old Vines

Lastly, the 2017 Chardonnay Old Vines comes all from the Quail Hill Vineyard but is a selection of older vines. Aged 14 months in 38% new French oak, it gives up a more tight, backward style as well as classy note of peach, white flowers, white peach, and ample minerality. The classic Quail Hill is certainly more approachable, yet I like the purity and precision here a touch more, although 2-3 years of bottle age are warranted.
