Red plums, blueberries, violets, candied orange, and flowery incense notes dominate the 2018 Zinfandel Katz-Ponzo Vineyard, a wonderfully complex, complete, balanced Zinfandel that does everything right. With good acidity, medium body, and a clean, classy finish, it shines for its complexity and elegance more than power and richness, yet it still packs beautiful fruit. I love it.

2018 Limerick Lane Cellars Zinfandel 1910 Block

There are 298 cases of the 2018 Zinfandel 1910 Block, which comes from a plot of vines planted in 1910 by the Del Fava Family. A field blend of mostly Zinfandel, its deeper purple hue is followed by a gorgeous bouquet of bright plum, blueberry, and strawberry fruits that are intermixed with notions of blood orange, cedary herbs, candied violets, and crushed rocks. As with all these Zinfandels from Limerick Lane, it's not a blockbuster but has a thrilling sense of elegance and complexity as well as structure. Flawless balanced and medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins and integrated acidity, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will keep for 10-15 years in cold cellars.

2018 Limerick Lane Cellars Estate Cuvee

There are 15 barrels of the 2018 Estate Cuvee, which is a blend of 63% Zinfandel, 27% Syrah, and the balance Petite Sirah. More closed aromatically and dark, dense, and meaty (no doubt due to the Syrah and Petite Sirah), it slowly gives up loads of black and blue fruits, ground pepper, brambly herbs, and cedar. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it offers a more mouthfilling, powerful style compared to the other Zinfandels in the lineup, yet stays classic, balanced, and structured. Give it a year or three.
