2017 Bucher Wines Pinot Noir Opa's Block

The most expensive of these releases is the 2017 Pinot Noir Opa's Block, named for John Bucher's father, Joe Bucher. (Opa is the Swiss German word for "Grandpa.”) Pretty redcurrants, dried flowers, forest floor, spice, and new leather notes all emerge from this medium-bodied beauty, which has a terrific sense of elegance and purity, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It certainly shows a more cool-climate, complex, almost Sonoma Coast-like profile compared to your average Russian River release. It's beautifully done and I suspect will keep for a decade.

2017 Bucher Wines Pinot Noir Three Sixty

The 2017 Pinot Noir Three Sixty is another terrific Russian River release that was 30% destemmed and brought up 50% new oak, which is the highest percentage of the four Pinot Noirs. Smoked black cherries, roasted herbs, forest floor, earth, and a touch of new leather all emerge from the glass, and this beauty has a rocking palate, showing medium-bodied richness, terrific balance, a seamless texture, and integrated acidity and tannins. As with all of these Pinots, there's a smoky oak component, but it's nicely balanced by plenty of fruit. This is outstanding stuff and should keep easily for 5-7 years.
