2018 Migration Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard

From a great site on the Sonoma Coast, the 2018 Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard has just a small portion of the blend not go through malolactic fermentation and spent 10 months in 44% new French oak. Light gold-hued, with notes of buttered lemons, honeydew melon, white flowers, and a touch of toasted bread, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a beautiful sense of freshness and purity, and plenty of length and richness on the finish. It's a terrific, outstanding Chardonnay that has a richer, classic style while still staying pure, balanced, and lively.

2018 Migration Chardonnay Running Creek Vineyard

The 2018 Chardonnay Running Creek Vineyard saw a similar élevage, with most of the juice going through malo and aging occurring in 38% new French oak. Buttered grapefruit, white flowers, crushed citrus and a touch of minerality all emerge from the glass of this more mid-weight, fresh, and lively effort. It has outstanding length on the finish and is a classy, balanced Chardonnay to enjoy over the coming 2-4 years.

2018 Migration Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

The appellation 2018 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast was brought up all in French oak, with 40% being new. It's a larger production effort yet delivers impressive quality, with plenty of pretty red and black berry fruit as well as subtle floral nuances. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, with good acidity, and a clean finish, this rock-solid effort has lots of Sonoma Coast character. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years. It's a step up over the 2017 and a good value.

2018 Migration Pinot Noir Dutton Ranch

Similarly lighter ruby-colored, the 2018 Pinot Noir Dutton Ranch comes from a vineyard in the Russian River Valley and was brought up in 40% new French oak. Black raspberries, spice box, bouquet garni, and pine/foresty notes all emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, elegant, and juicy on the palate, with a fruit-forward style ideal for drinking over the coming 4-5 years.

2018 Migration Pinot Noir Running Creek Vineyard

Also from the Russian River and seeing the same 16 months in 40% new French oak, the 2018 Pinot Noir Running Creek Vineyard delivers a rocking, spice-filled bouquet of mulberry, raspberry, and cranberry fruits as well as medium-bodied richness, light tannins, and terrific overall balance. It shows more violet notes with time in the glass, and I love its overall balance and texture. This beautiful wine should evolve for a solid 5-7 years.
