2018 Delas Freres Condrieu Galopine

Not yet bottled, the 2018 Condrieu Galopine reveals a light gold color to go with a ripe, rounded, medium to full-bodied Condrieu that has classic peach, apricot, citrus blossom, and honeyed minerality. It shows the vintage’s forward, rounded style, and it isn't meant for long-term aging, but it's going to be terrific for at least 2-3 years.

Delas Frères continues to fire on all cylinders under the guidance of Jacques Granges, who came on board as the head winemaker in June of 1997. Jacques also has the talented Claire Darnaud helping with the winemaking and, unquestionably, the top wines here are world-class in every way. In addition, the estate has just completed construction on a new cellar located in the heart of Tain l’Hermitage. In addition to the single vineyard, the estate is also a treasure trove of value wines, both from the Northern and Southern Rhône.

Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, and structured, it's beautifully balanced on the palate, with plenty of fruit. Nevertheless, it has enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring.

2018 Delas Freres Hermitage Les Bessards

Coming from what I consider to be the greatest terroir for Syrah on the planet, the 2018 Hermitage Les Bessards is all Syrah that is still aging in new and once-used barrels. 2018 Delas Freres Hermitage Domaine Des Tourettes

The 2018 Hermitage Domaine Des Tourettes is cut from the same cloth as its big brother, the Les Bessards, yet is slightly more fleshy, rounded, and sexy. Black cherries, blackcurrants, ground herbs, crushed rocks, and ample meatiness all flow to a rich, full-bodied, powerful barrel sample that has enough tannin to warrant a solid 4-5 years of bottle age. This is brilliant all the way and well worth seeking out.

I loved the nose of the 2017 Cornas Chante Perdrix. It’s a medium-bodied, balanced, elegant Cornas with classic aromatics (violets, incense, black pepper, and dark fruits), silky tannins, and a seamless texture. It’s already drinking nicely yet should easily evolve for a decade.

In addition to the single vineyard, the estate is also a treasure trove of value wines, both from the Northern and Southern Rhône.

2017 Delas Freres Saint Joseph Sainte-Epine

I loved the 2017 Saint Joseph Sainte Epine, a fine example of this cooler, granite terroir located just north of Tournon. Notes of graphite, camphor, scorched earth, and liquid rock all give way to a medium to full-bodied, focused, structured wine that has a terrific core of dark fruit, building tannins, and a great finish. It's going to need 4-5 years of bottle age, but it’s a beauty.
