2018 Domaine Les Alexandrins Crozes-Hermitage

Coming from estate vineyards, the 2018 Crozes-Hermitage was all destemmed and brought up in used barrels. This deep purple/plum-hued effort offers textbook dark blackberry and black raspberry fruits intermixed with textbook olive, pepper, and floral aromas and flavors. Balanced, medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured and seamless on the palate, with ultra-fine tannins, it's a beautifully complex, layered Crozes Hermitage that's going to shine right out of the gate, yet also evolve for a decade. I often don't find a difference in the quality between the Maison and Domaine releases, but in 2018, the Domaine looks to be a step up.

The Les Alexandrins label is composed of two separate releases, the Domaine Les Alexandrins and the Maison Les Alexandrins. The Domaine releases come from estate vineyards, and the Maison releases come from purchased fruit. It’s confusing for US consumers, but both labels consist of terrific wines.

2018 Domaine Les Alexandrins Saint Joseph

Coming from 4 hectares of decomposed granite soils, the 2018 Saint Joseph reveals a deep purple/ruby hue as well as notes of ripe raspberries, blueberries, toasted spice, and peppery herbs. It's juicy, lively, medium-bodied, and beautifully balanced, with the polished, supple style of the vintage front and center.

2018 Maison Les Alexandrins Condrieu

The 2018 Condrieu is a solid effort that's made in a more crisp, pure, focused style. Notes of honeyed stone fruits, apricot, flower oil, and a kiss of minerality all emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, has good concentration, and stays fresh and lively on the palate.

The Maison Les Alexandrins are made by the Alexandrins team from purchased fruit.

2018 Maison Les Alexandrins Crozes-Hermitage Blanc

Not yet bottled, the 2018 Crozes-Hermitage Blanc checks in as a blend of 65% Marsanne and 35% Roussanne, from 20-year-old vines and a mix of soils from throughout the appellation. Its medium gold color is followed by a classic bouquet of stone fruits, honeyed citrus, white flowers, and a hint of brioche. It's beautifully textured, medium-bodied, and balanced, and is another incredibly high-quality wine from this team.

2018 Maison Les Alexandrins Hermitage Blanc

Based on equal parts Marsanne and Roussanne from the Maison Blanche and Rocoules lieux-dits, the 2018 Hermitage Blanc reveals a deeper gold color as well as notes of honeyed quince, spice, toasted bread and white flowers. This medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, balanced white needs another year of bottle age and should evolve for a decade.

2018 Maison Les Alexandrins Cornas

The 2018 Cornas has a pretty violet, floral, and blue-fruited style to go with a medium-bodied, juicy, lively feel on the palate. Nicely balanced, with good acidity, it's going to benefit from short-term cellaring.

2018 Maison Les Alexandrins Crozes-Hermitage
