2018 Domaine Vallet Condrieu Rouelle-Midi

Bright citrus blossom, honeyed tangerines, and floral notes all emerge from the 2018 Condrieu Rouelle-Midi, and it has a solid sense of minerality as well as medium-bodied richness and depth. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years.

2018 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Meribets Blanc

The 2018 Saint Joseph Meribets Blanc is terrific, offering lots of spice citrus, white flower, and honeysuckle aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, balanced, and graceful on the palate, it has good acidity, plenty of fruit, and the balance to keep for upwards of a decade. This cuvée is 80% Roussanne and 20% Marsanne and was brought up in equal parts tank and used barrels.

2018 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Muletiers

I loved the 2018 Saint Joseph Muletiers. It's a fresh, lively style of Saint Joseph that still has beautiful depth of fruit. Violets, blueberries, fresh plum, mint, cracked peppercorns, and plenty of mineral notes all emerge from the glass, and it's supple, silky, and seamless on the palate, with terrific integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity.

2018 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Meribets

The 2018 Saint Joseph Meribets is cut from the same cloth as the Muletiers yet just isn't quite as complex. Ripe black fruits, peppery herbs, and plenty of minerality all define the bouquet, and it's a polished, silky, nicely concentrated 2018 that's going to drink nicely right out of the gate.

2017 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Muletiers

The 2017 Saint Joseph Muletiers was all destemmed and saw 16 months in a mix of demi-muids and smaller barrels. Its inky purple color is followed by a smoking bouquet of black raspberries, sappy herbs, bacon fat, and new leather, with just a hint of spring flowers thrown in for good measure. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully textured, it's a smoking good 2017 to enjoy over the coming decade or more.

2017 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Meribets Rouge

Completely destemmed and aged 10 months in used barrels, the 2017 Saint Joseph Meribets Rouge is also outstanding, with a spicy, peppery, nuanced bouquet to go with a medium-bodied, plush, sexy style on the palate. It's slightly more streamlined than the Muliertier release yet isn't far off. I suspect it too will keep for a decade.

2017 Domaine Vallet Saint Joseph Secret D'Antoine

Lastly, the tiny production 2017 Saint Joseph Secret D'Antoine was just 30% destemmed and spent 22 months in barrels. It offers a similar inky color as well as a beautiful bouquet of cassis, new leather, ground spices, and subtle background oak. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it stays nicely balanced, has a great mid-palate, and a big finish, all making for a ripe, powerful Saint Joseph that's going to need at least 3-4 years of bottle age.
