2018 Domaine Des Pierres Seches Saint Joseph Blanc

Based all on Roussanne brought up in barrel, the 2018 Saint Joseph Blanc offers a kiss of tropical fruit as well as classy citrus blossom, honeysuckle, quince, and flower oil nuances. Rich, medium to full-bodied, with moderate acidity and a layered, opulent texture, this beauty going to shine on the dinner table. It's will keep for upwards of a decade, although I see no need to delay gratification.

These releases are made by the young, Burgundy-trained Sylvain Gauthier, and they strike a good balance between modern and traditional styles. I found both 2017 reds to be impressive yet in need of bottle age. The two 2018 whites presented were both brilliant and drinking nicely.

2018 Domaine Des Pierres Seches Saint Joseph Aubert Blanc

Made from 100% Marsanne, the 2018 Saint Joseph Aubert Blanc is another thriller from this team. Honeyed citrus, white currants, white flowers, crushed stone and spicy notes all give way to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet pure and focused white that has plenty of mid-palate heft and concentration, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's going to keep for over a decade.

2017 Domaine Des Pierres Seches Saint Joseph

The 2017 Saint Joseph comes from granite soils in the communes of Vion, Arras, and Sarras, and is brought up in 3- to 4-year-old barrels. It offers a deep purple color as well as a complex bouquet of blackberries, black cherries, sandalwood, ground pepper, and rare meat. It's medium-bodied, has a focused, structured feel, good length, and needs 3-4 years of bottle age.

2017 Domaine Des Pierres Seches Saint Joseph Aubert

The 2017 Saint Joseph Aubert is more complex and layered. Lots of cassis, cedarwood, dried herbs, and cured meats, as well as graphite, give way to a full-bodied, pure, serious Saint Joseph that has a stacked mid-palate, building tannins, and a great finish. Do your best to hide bottles for 3-5 years. This wine comes from vines near Ste Epine and St Jean de Muzols, and is aged 18 months in new, once-, and twice-used oak.
