NV Sean Thackrey La Pleiade II

The NV La Pleiade II is a total charmer that reminds me of a white from Hermitage Hill with its honeyed minerality, orange blossom, and sautéed apple aromas and flavors. With good richness, plenty of concentration, and nicely integrated acidity, it’s going to shine on the dinner table, and I suspect age gracefully for upwards of a decade.

NV Sean Thackrey Pleiades Old Vines XXVI

A non-vintage blend of Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Viognier, Zinfandel, and Syrah (just to name a few), the NV Pleiades Old Vineyard XXVI is a charming, forward, delicious wine that has a singular character in its dried red fruits, dried earth, herbes de Provence, and cured meat-like aromas and flavors. Silky, medium-bodied, and elegant on the palate, with plenty of sweet fruit, it has bright acidity and is going to age surprisingly well.

2015 Sean Thackrey Pinot Noir Andromeda

The latest release, the 2015 Pinot Noir Andromeda comes from the same site as the 2013 and has a similar translucent ruby color yet shows more fruit-forward characteristics of red raspberry, cranberries, rose petals, and spring flowers. It too is elegant, silky and seamless on the palate, with a lightweight feel that carries plenty of intensity and length. It’s another singular effort that’s going to keep for a decade.

2015 Sean Thackrey Orion

From the same vines planted in 1905, the 2015 Orion is a bigger, richer wine compared to the 2014 yet offers similarly awesome notes of black and blue fruits, scorched earth, bay leaf, ground pepper, lavender, and violets. Showing hints of chocolate and mint with time in the glass, this medium to full-bodied, multi-dimensional effort has no hard edges, incredible depth and intensity, and is just a brilliant, brilliant wine that needs to be tasted to be believed. It needs a decant if drinking any time soon yet will cruise for two decades in cool cellars. This is magical stuff.

2014 Sean Thackrey Orion

Coming from the Rossi Vineyard in St. Helena and a field blend from vines mostly planted in 1905, the 2014 Orion is a brilliant bottle of wine that sports a deep ruby/purple color as well as a layered, complex style in its blackberry, blueberry, lavender, herbes de Provence, and ground pepper aromas and flavors. Deep, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant, this perfectly balanced beauty shows the charming elegance of the vintage beautifully yet has the density, length, and class to evolve for 15+ years.

2013 Sean Thackrey Pinot Noir Andromeda

Coming from a cool, windy site in Marin County, the 2013 Pinot Noir Andromeda is another singular wine from this estate. Tons of cured meats, stemmy herbs, kirsch liqueur, and exotic baking spices all emerge from this layered, light-on-its-feet, yet intense Pinot Noir. It opens up beautifully with time in the glass and develops terrific floral and spicy nuances, with no hard edges, medium body, and a great finish. Drink it any time through 2028.
