2016 Chimney Rock Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is a beautiful, classic wine that does everything right. Black cherries, blackberries, licorice, scorched earth, and graphite notes all emerge from this medium-bodied, elegant, balanced Cabernet that shows the classic, straight style of the vintage nicely. It has solid structure and will put on weight with short-term cellaring, and should have 10-15 years of prime drinking.

2015 Chimney Rock Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Vineyard

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Vineyard is another deep ruby/purple-hued effort that offers tons of blackberries, scorched earth, graphite, and roasted herb aromas and flavors. It's tight, backward, and closed for business on the palate, with medium to full body, rock star levels of concentration, and present yet ripe tannins. It has all the right components but is one for the ages, without the upfront charm found in the 2014. Give bottles 4-5 years of bottle age and it should cruise for two decades in good cellars.

2015 Chimney Rock Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Tomahawk Vineyard

Even better, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Tomahawk Vineyard is brilliant all the way, sporting a saturated purple/plum color, a huge nose of blackberries, currants, scorched earth, graphite, and cedarwood, full-bodied richness, great intensity, and a deep, dense, concentrated style. It needs 7-8 years of cellaring but is a classic, structured Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that's going to have 2+ decades of longevity. Bravo.

2015 Chimney Rock Winery Elevage

The Merlot-dominated 2015 Elevage (there's 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and a tiny splash of Petit Verdot) is a more straightforward, enjoyable effort that has pretty notes of spiced red and black fruits and leafy herbs, medium-bodied flavors, good complexity, and moderate density and depth. Given how tightly wound the other 2015s are from this estate, this is actually the most drinkable today and will keep for at least 7-8 years.

2015 Chimney Rock Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 is one of the inkier colored wines in the lineup and is opaque purple-colored. It boasts a rocking bouquet of blackberry and blueberry fruits as well as notes of dried earth, white truffle, lead pencil, and dried flowers. Deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and with some savory tannins and a firm edge, drink it over the coming 15 years or so.

2015 Chimney Rock Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 7

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 7 has more upfront fruit than the Clone 4 and boasts terrific notes of black cherries, blueberries, crushed violets, and camphor. With terrific sweetness of fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and ripe, present tannins, it's another beautiful wine from this estate that has the class and balance to keep for 15-20 years.
